NEW SDI ASSOCIATE MEMBERS (April, 2006)

Welcome to three new associate members, who provide a wide range of service activities:

ALTAI CONSERVANCY: Registered in the U.S., with George Helmer as president. The Altai Conservancy, Inc. is committed to the conservation and preservation of all natural and indigenous communities of the four-nation Altai Region in Russian Siberia, Kazakhstan, China and Mongolia.

GETTING ON: Located in the U.K.; Hermia Brockway is the project leader. This grassroots project aims to promote well-being and activities for older people through sharing experience, bringing relevant web content to those to whom it is not available, and by distilling cross-cultural wisdom to help bridge the generation gap common in all countries.

MY NEIGHBORHOOD INTERNATIONAL: Registered in the U.S., Hamidah Glasgow is the project leader. This project provides a means for children of all cultures and backgrounds to explore and share their world through the arts. The programs seek to increase each child’s sense of self-worth, the value of their own community and freedom to pursue their dreams.

INTERNATIONAL CHILD DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (April, 2006)
From Lailah Armstrong, Project Coordinator

The future vision for the sustainability of ICDP in Boyaca was the main topic of the recent meetings with the First Lady of the province and the rest of the team from the Governor's office. As a result, the Secretariat for Education and the Institute for Social Services will include ICDP as a permanent component in their programs, and the secretariat for Human Development plans to reach 20,000 families with ICDP.
Several ICDP training workshops were recently held by Lailah Armstrong in Medellin (province of Antioquia) and Neiva (province of Huila). This marked the beginning of three new project developments in cooperation with the Medellin municipality, CINDE, UNICEF and the governor's office in Huila. Huila is the third province to receive ICDP training as part of a preventive strategy where ICDP is implemented in every single town in the province.
